specialize in the design of post and beam homes and other post
and beam building projects. I have been involved in a range of building
and construction types since graduating from the University of Pennsylvania
in 1980. For the past ten years I have been working primarily with timber
frame building projects.
I can be involved in the design and drawing process
to varying degrees depending on your specific needs or desires. Most often
I work with a client to develop an architectural drawing package. A good
set of drawings is invaluable:
- in the resolution of design issues
- for presentation to the bank
- for submission for building permits
- for obtaining confident pricing from contractors and suppliers
- and as a document integral to the accurate constuction of a building
project.
A number of my popular house
designs are available for purchase as drawing packages including
the architectural and timber
frame sets. These designs can be used as is or the designs can
be customized. Pre-designed drawing sets can be important for people who
are on a tight construction schedule and/or cannot afford the time or
money it takes to design a house from scratch. Using the plans as is,
or customizing one of the pre-designed home plans simplifies what can
be an involved process and pays off in cost, time, and energy saved. The
pre-designed packages are available for $400 to $800,
and customization is available for $60 per hour.
I am also happy to work with you on a fully-custom post & beam project.
Many timber frame design services are part
of a timber frame manufactuing company. This means you need to commit
to a specific timber frame company to some degree before you can start
the design process. My relationship with you is one that can be independent
of any timber frame company, allowing you to contact multiple timber framers
with a design in hand and to deal with each of them on an equal and informed
basis.
Each drawing package includes floor plans,
elevations, framing plans, foundation plan, and section details (corners,
windows, railings, foundation, insulated panels, gables, walls, etc.),
schedules and notes as necessary for construction definition. The package
does not identify kitchen layout and design or finishes and finish parts,
allowing you to be involved with other services, contractors and retailers
to complete the finishing touches on your home.

designs to see how closely the pre-designed packages match your needs.
