Summit Street Renovation

Located in the South End Hill Section of Burlington, Vermont, this 1950s midcentury modern, split level raised ranch looked weathered, dated and in need of some serious attention.   After our first site visit, we knew this iconic 20th-century home had potential with its low-slung roofs, open floor plan and great location.  To remedy the plain, old box feeling malady, we incorporated materials such as a standing seem roof, fiber cement siding and Marvin Integrity windows, all of which are energy efficient, low maintenance products designed to handle Vermont’s harsh winters.  The existing front stoop lacked character and distinction and felt more like a side entry. This renovation was a great opportunity to incorporate a more prominent entrance and functional front porch anyone could enjoy. The addition of a two-foot roof overhang was a more suitable design for the low-pitched roof; it both pushes water away from the home, while adding some nice architectural details. Exterior downward lit lights, intermediate trim, along with plank and shake style siding help distinguish the homes character and transform this once ordinary house into a home the owners can be proud of.
